Nikifor (1893-1968) was an uneducated self-taught naive/folk painter from the Lemkovshchyna. He had a speech impediment and he was an illegitimate child, so one can see that he had the requisite “colourful” background. He was “discovered” in the 1950s, and his primitivist art is preserved today in several museums, including one devoted to his works alone. One could call him the Lemko “Grandma Moses“. A movie was made about his later years in 2004,  Mój Nikifor (My Nikifor).
