This is one of the best examples of this particular “type” of icon… ironically, it’s in Sicily, executed after the Great Western Schism of 1054. Originally, Cefalù was one of the colonies of Magna Graeca, it’s name in Greek was Kefaloidis (Κεφαλοιδὶς).
